ABSTRACT

The immersion of digital technologies in the initial training of Natural Sciences teachers has become even more complex since the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic. In this sense, the present study proposed to analyze how digital technologies are present in the training of Natural Sciences teachers. For this, 15 semi-structured interviews were carried out and an online questionnaire was applied to teachers and students of the Biology, Chemistry and Physics subprojects of the Pedagogical Residency Program/Capes (RP/Capes) of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). Based on the principles of Critical Discourse Analysis, the reports identified difficulties in problematizing training with digital technologies, in view of the need to restructure the curricular matrices of the degrees, in addition to the already rooted instrumental training of future teachers. In this way, it is essential to expand the promotion of initial teacher training programs, such as PR, regarding the need to remove the instrumentalizing perspective that limits dialogue with technologies, making actions attentive to the potential of such digital spaces. © 2023 Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Instituto de Fisica. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has greatly altered peoples' daily lives. Teachers and students were found quite unprepared for the emergence of the first COVID-19 wave. So, improving the knowledge of students about COVID-19 is an important issue. METHODS: In this study, 240 high students attended. Two interventions with the same contents, but in different ways, were delivered. A structured questionnaire was utilized to collect data on demographic information, and information about the behavioral intention toward COVID-19 before and after the educational interventions as well as a control group that received no educational intervention. RESULTS: students in all arms had similar baseline knowledge of COVID-19. The results of the post-analysis showed the efficiency of educational techniques in increasing students' knowledge about COVID-19. So the audio-visual training method performed significantly better than the visual training method (p = 0.03). Both approaches achieved better scores than the control group (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: During the outbreak of COVID-19, multimedia-based learning is a more effective educational approach and can improve the learning outcomes related to COVID-19 and achieve learning goals without close contact than written materials.

ABSTRACT

Background/Aims The COVID-19 pandemic posed unique challenges for people worldwide in self-caring for their rheumatoid arthritis (RA). COVID-19 also prompted global changes in public health (e.g., vaccination programs and mask wearing) and rheumatology services (e.g., integrating telehealth with in-person healthcare). To facilitate cross-country learning of how to support people with RA to self-care during and post-pandemic, better understanding of individuals' experiences of self-care in the context of changes in public health and 'integrated' healthcare is needed. Our study aimed to explore transferability in experiences of public health measures and telehealth during COVID- 19 among individuals with RA in Canada and the UK. Methods Between July and October 2022, online focus groups (90 mins) took place with participants living with RA in the UK. Participants were recruited via social media and professional networks (including Versus Arthritis). Each participant received a report >=7days before each focus group, with a request to review in advance. The report contained preliminary findings identified through reflexive thematic analysis of interviews (30-70 mins) with thirty-nine participants with RA in British Columbia, Canada (26-86 years;36 females) between December 2020 and 2021. Nine preliminary themes were identified across three topics: accessing telehealth and in-person healthcare;decision-making around COVID-19 vaccinations and public health measures;and renegotiating 'the self'. The themes guided the focus groups, wherein UK participants shared their perspectives on each theme arising in the Canadian context. Audio-visual recordings were transcribed verbatim, and transcripts were de-identified. Ongoing directed content analysis of focus group data involves a collaborative approach with patient partners. Results Four focus groups involving thirteen participants (44-81 years;11 females) living across the UK were conducted. Participants had lived with RA for between 3-36 years. Canadian experiences typically resonated with UK participants, with some feeling a sense of unity and sadness that challenges were also experienced by others living with RA beyond their national context. Many UK participants supported preferences expressed by Canadian participants for a 'hybrid' healthcare approach to maximise benefits and minimise downsides of telehealth, and in-person consultations post-pandemic. Benefits (e.g., avoiding risk of COVID-19 transmission with telehealth) and disadvantages (e.g., lacking sensitivity/accuracy of in-person assessments) described by Canadian participants also resonated with UKbased participants. Many described how their decision-making on adopting public health measures to maintain their self-care was supported and/or undermined in their local context/community. Conclusion Our findings offer novel insights into the challenges and opportunities experienced by people with RA in their decision-making around public health measures and telehealth during a global pandemic. They also demonstrate some transferability of experiences between the UK and Canada. Insights may serve to inform decision-making for policy and programmes to support self-care (e.g., by integrating telehealth into routine rheumatology practice) across countries during and postpandemic.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 closed schools across the USA and forced teachers and students to navigate virtual learning with little guidance. This mixed-methods study examines K-12 teachers' beliefs about their teaching practices that were abruptly transitioned to online during the first four months of COVID-19. Surveys and interviews were analysed using sociocultural theory and the four-dimensional model of digital literacy. Teachers felt unprepared for online teaching and expressed an inability to meet their students' needs. Concerns focused on digital access inequalities, a desire for support to build digital pedagogies, particularly to enhance student engagement. The findings point to a responsibility to support digital pedagogies across pre-service and in-service contexts so that, at a minimum, teachers can operate efficiently. For greater educational equity and outcomes, teachers need to be able to build competencies to facilitate communication, critique and creative expression across contexts, digital spaces, media and for multiple purposes. ABSTRACT

Billing and coding of telerheumatology encounter types has become more complex, as opportunities to provide telerheumatology services have expanded, with a major increase due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter provides an overview of telerheumatology billing and coding prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. It outlines how geographic criteria for providing telerheumatology care have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. It identifies specific billing codes, and criteria for their use, which are most relevant to rheumatology care teams. These include discussions of synchronous audio and visual encounters, audio-only encounters, E-visits, virtual check-ins, and interprofessional electronic consults (also known as eConsults). We discuss modifiers and place of service codes which may be required, as well as telehealth codes which may be used by nonphysician members of a rheumatology care team, such as nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Finally, this chapter compares payment policies between Medicare and commercial payers, and briefly looks toward possible future trends in telerheumatology coverage policies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022. ABSTRACT

Summary – An online Catholic pastoral has existed in France since the beginning of the web in the mid-1990s. The crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has, then, prompted the Church to turn to an image and sound-based communication which has been welcomed by the confined communities. The present article suggests three possible explanations to this phenomenon. There may be a historical and techno-economic factor to this type of © 2022 Universite Catholique de Louvain. ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has meant the adaptation of the curricular model in teaching. This con-tribution presents the results obtained from a teaching innovation experience based on the creation of didactic videos for use in dual teaching in a university subject. Dual teaching involves rotating attendance by groups of students while the rest view the class through videoconference. This, at times, may mean that students not present in the classroom do not perceive 100% of the content worked on in class. For this reason, teaching videos were pro-duced, published on YouTube, where the explanation of the subject taught in each class is collected, the access link of which was shared with all the students. In this way they can access the explanation of the agenda at any time. The objective has been to assess the degree of satisfaction of university students with the teaching methodology based on the creation of didactic videos used in dual teaching. A mixed questionnaire was developed and passed anonymously to the students enrolled in the subject (163). 123 responses were obtained. The results show a high degree of satisfaction with the initiative and a very positive assess-ment of its pedagogical usefulness. The most and best valued qualitative aspects were: being able to view the videos at another time, as well as the desired times. Consequently, the crea-tion of teaching videos has constituted an adequate didactic resource, according to the eva-luation of the students, for its use in dual university teaching.

ABSTRACT

This study explores what types of digital life scenarios children practiced while facing the challenges of epidemic isolation, in which distance learning and limited social contact depended largely on new digital platforms. The study of children's mediatised activities within epidemic isolation can be approached from the perspective of radical contextualism, which has been widely used since the ethnographic turn in audience research that began in the late 1980s. Following this conceptual framework, the aim of the study is to identify the predominant experiences of isolated everyday life in a case study of schoolchildren and uncover typical collective groupings among young people. Based on a follow the child perspective, an online survey was conducted at a selected primary school, targeting children from 6th to 9th grade, to capture children's perceptions of online education and distance learning, prevalent digital use and their personal digital positioning. In an analytical sense, the collected sample of 110 schoolchildren was categorised using a cluster analysis to identify the typical scenarios of digital culture and show the diversity of online practices that children experienced during the COVID-19 isolation, even in a relatively homogeneous group of schoolchildren. ABSTRACT

Influencers are the main source of disseminated health-related content, and this content is also more accepted by the population compared to content disseminated by health institutions. The objective of this study is to determine the communication strategies and content that generate more engagement with users who follow health and pharmacy topics. We analysed six Instagram accounts of Spanish influencers related to science and health communication with more than 30,000 followers. We evaluated user interaction metrics, the type of content shared, and calculated the degree of engagement based on the number of followers and interaction with the content. The accounts with the highest degree of engagement, such as @Farmacia_enfurecida with 166,000 followers, an engagement of 3.7% of likes per publication and 0.91% in comments, are accounts with a smaller number of followers. Communication techniques such as health product sweepstakes are the most effective in achieving user interaction. Engagement is a determining variable in the impact of health-related content dissemination and is not necessarily linked to a greater number of followers;the profiles that use a greater number of reels and infographics are those with a higher engagement value.

ABSTRACT

To assess the effectiveness of remote clinical quality management of endovascular Aim care. The system of clinical quality management of medical care in myocardial infarction (MI) including the quality of remote control of endovascular care was developed and introduced into the health care system of the Moscow Region as a part of the comprehensive study in 2008-2020. The number of people under the study was 8375. The ground for assessing the effectiveness of remote clinical management in 2019-2020 was the health care system of megapolis. Based on the analysis of 2966 endovascular procedures protocols, the treatment tactics effectiveness of intraoperative decisions was studied after an emergency coronary angiography (ECA) had been performed by interventional cardiologists. The Methods system of remote clinical quality management of endovascular care included a complex of audiovisual communications, computer system processes, mentoring and the algorithm for making an intraoperative decision. The effectiveness of remote clinical quality management of endovascular care was investigated on the number of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) in MI, mortality of patients with MI in the Regional vascular center in 2019-2020. The T-criteria was used to assess the reliability. The material statistical processing was carried out in the Statistica 6.0 package calculating adequate statistical indicators and their reliability at p<=0.005. Ratio PCI/ECA in 2019, January-March 2020 counted up to 48.95%. In April-December 2020 it increased up to 71.6% (p<0.001). The frequency of performing Results PCI increased by 1.46 times (p<0.001). Hospital mortality from MI decreased during the following period 2019, April-December 2020 from 9.7% to 8.2% (p = 0.005). ABSTRACT

This research arises from the need to know the elements that have an impact on the audiovisual competencies of adolescents during the confinements provoked to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The purpose is to diagnose the development of audiovisual communication skills among Ecuadorian adolescents as a contribution to sustainability, based on the intervention of educational actors. The methodology is qualitative, with a descriptive approach. The instruments used were: focus groups with parents, students, and teachers from public and private institutions in Ecuador;semi-structured interviews with experts: and non-participant observation. It can be concluded that adolescents acquire audiovisual skills, processes, and languages autonomously before entering college, but they do so without the social context, ethical values and responsibilities that should be part of complete media learning. The demands of online learning during the pandemic have resulted in the development of skills and attitudes, but they have not led to full media literacy. It is pertinent to provoke innovations and updates in the curricula of higher education, specifically in the careers of social communication, in order to be aware of the technological changes on the basis of deontological principles and in favour of democratic values, tolerance, and responsibility with the sustainability of nature and people. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the weakness of the internet as a resource for medical information. YouTube is a common source patients search, especially regarding surgeries. YouTube and the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) have collaborated to accredit videos from reputable sources to identify them as trustworthy resources. It remains undefined whether high quality resources are available to inform patients pending cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC), In this study, YouTube search results for HIPEC are critically appraised for the quality of information and visual aids presented to patients seeking information online. METHOD(S): The first 100 YouTube search results for HIPEC less than 10 minutes long in English with audio and/or text were transcribed. The Flesch-Kincaid score defined the reading grade level. High content quality videos were accredited by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) or mentioned the standard components necessary for a surgical consent. The Anderson-Lau score is a composite of these criteria ranging from 0-8. The simplicity of videos for patient education was graded from poor to high quality by the DISCERN tool. The quality of audiovisual aids was evaluated using the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT) which is graded from 0-100%. RESULT(S): A total of 96 videos met the inclusion criteria. The threshold of 100 videos was not reached because the remaining videos were all over 10 min or not in English. The median number of views was 798. The most common video publishers were Academic or Research Centers (37.5%) and News or Media Outlets (30.2%). The most common intended audiences were Patients (73%) and Physicians (16.7%). Over half of the videos (53.1%) did not have NAM accreditation. The median Anderson-Lau, PEMAT understandability and DISCERN scores were 2, 56.4%, and Poor respectively. Only 1 video scored as high quality by DISCERN metrics. Only 11.5% of the videos were at a 6-8th grade reading level, which is considered the reading level for average Americans. Higher Anderson-Lau, PEMAT, or DISCERN scores were not associated with NAM accreditation. CONCLUSION(S): CRS/HIPEC is a treatment option for advanced metastatic cancers. Using the Anderson-Lau, DISCERN, and PEMAT scores, most internet videos are poor quality regardless of NAM accreditation. These three tools could be used in a concerted effort to design higher quality resources about CRS/HIPEC to better educate patients on such a consequential operation.

ABSTRACT

This article focuses on the educational participation of young refugees in the context of digitalized settings. Education policies often consider digital media beneficial for the educational participation of disadvantaged groups, or vulnerable groups facing many challenges in education and society, such as young people with a forced migration background. Moreover, digital media are highly relevant in the everyday lives of young refugees. Our 3-5-year (02/2019-07/2022) research project focuses on the trans-organizational orientation occurring in different everyday media-permeated life contexts of young refugees, which includes the formal educational setting of school, the non-formal setting of child and youth welfare, and informal contexts in the everyday life of young refugees. Through combining grounded theory, ethnography, and neo-praxeological methodologies, organizational cross-connections and cross-relations were revealed in practices and arrangements, involving digital artifacts as well as human actors. This article presents methodological insights into distributed educational practices concerning understanding information, acquiring knowledge, and developing agency in which digital media are implicated. Emerging dimensions of educational inequalities within digitalized educational contexts, which became apparent during lockdown periods in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, are discussed. ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to analyze, from a gender perspective, advertising broadcasts during a time of crisis. A holistic perspective of the stereotypes, roles, professions, and gender relations represented is offered by utilizing a content analysis of all the advertisements and their corresponding images during broadcast. Methods: a content analysis of 20 variables was conducted;of these, 7 variables were obtained from under the gender perspective of 1.350 images, corresponding to 71 audiovisual spots on YouTube that were broadcasted during the lockdown. Results: this analysis showed the special sensitivity of advertisers when balancing male and female presences, and in projecting an equitable and co-responsible vision between both genders, with special emphasis on gender professions, teleworking, and childcare. Corporate advertising predominates over commercial advertising, which may explain why the discourse and images blur inequalities and imbalances with respect to official statistics. Conclusions: advertisers seem to have noticed the strategic role of introducing gender perspectives into advertising, thus assuming a more social function that better connects them with today's society while also supporting the advances and challenges of equal opportunities.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe aim of the present study is to reflect upon the use of digital audiovisual content for the marketing of cultural events in the relative organisations and foundations during the turbulent times of the COVID-19 pandemic by conveying experts' interviews. The main question that the study seeks to touch upon is whether the digital audiovisual techniques implemented by cultural foundations and festivals in Greece during the COVID-19 pandemic were efficient in promoting artwork and stressing on social presence and whether their marketing and distributing processes of the artistic and cultural products manage to attract audience engagement and further enhance the foundations' brand. What the research seeks to examine is issues such as digital content creation, arts marketing, use of digital media and new technologies, brand identity and strategy building. Particular digital campaigns of foundations will be reviewed from a closer focus.Design/methodology/approachThe qualitative research is based on experts' interviews. The primary foundations that are in focus are the organisations of Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF), Dimitria Festival in Thessaloniki, Greece and a major cultural foundation in Athens, Greece the Onassis Foundation.FindingsA proper combination of interesting audiovisual content and precise brand aspirations in terms of identity and vision are what will lead a foundation to the audience it desires. Adaptability is the element that defined the foundations in the turbulence of the times of a pandemic, and creativity is what made some foundations differentiate themselves from others. The digitization that the pandemic brought can be considered as a positive dimension as well, since foundations can combine digital and physical spectacles in the near future so that they can always be relevant.Research limitations/implicationsThis study identifies certain limitations that could be investigated by future research, the main one being the small number of the organisations and foundations under research and the limited number of interviewees. Furthermore, the fact that the research was performed in cultural institutions and that audiovisual features were integral in the artwork they serve could be considered as a limitation.Originality/valueThe originality of this research lies in the examination and registration of the implementation of innovative digital audiovisual techniques by cultural foundations in Greece to reach their audience during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Audiovisual promotional material plays a central role in the production of content for the digital marketing of destination brands. As intersemiotic means of meaning-making channelled through various digital media, videos are crucial in the creation and dissemination of compelling and meaningful stories about destinations and their values. Due to its affective power, and because it offers users the opportunity to tour the destination virtually, audiovisual tourism promotional material is fundamental to trigger prospects and returning visitors, and to influence or initiate their customer journey. During the COVID-19 pandemic, global travel restrictions and lockdown measures brought the tourist industry to a halt. While people were physically unable to travel, they spent significantly more time online, virtually exploring places, museums, and attractions made available to them via several websites or social media. By applying a digital marketing professional perspective, grounded in destination branding and social semiotic multimodality, the present chapter seeks to shed further light on the ways and means destinations use to generate an "emotional connection that creates a profound relationship" (Hudson and Brent Ritchie 2009) with prospective visitors, even at a time of crisis. To this aim, it will analyse Ireland's release of an online film on May 1, 2020, to engage online users on different media with a story of resilience, dreams, and hope for a quick return to travelling, encapsulated by the payoff and hashtag #DreamNowTravelLater. Ultimately, the analysis of such content tries to offer a meditation on the heightened significance of content production and storytelling, and the meanings and behaviours they may produce, in the field of digital destination marketing both during the COVID-19 pandemic and in its aftermath. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2021.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected city dwellers' physical and mental health and has raised concerns about the health of urban public spaces. This field investigation research in Dalian, China, examined the perceived audio-visual environment characteristics of urban pedestrian streets with traffic noise and their influences on the environmental health of the pedestrian streets. Five indicators reflecting psychological responses to environmental characteristics (willingness to walk, relaxation, safety, beauty, and comprehensive comfort) were used to measure environmental health of pedestrian streets with traffic noise. The results showed that safety was rated the highest, and willingness to walk was evaluated as the lowest among health evaluation indicators. The imageability and openness of the streetscape were associated with each health evaluation indicator. In contrast, the rhythm and continuity of the street buildings had a greater effect on willingness to walk than the other health indicators. There were negative correlations between L Aeq for traffic noise and health evaluations. Positive health evaluations were observed when L Aeq was less than 55 dBA. In contrast, soundscape indicators showed positive correlations with health evaluations, and acoustic comfort and noise annoyance, rather than sound preference and subjective loudness were associated with each health evaluation indicator. In terms of the combined audio-visual factors, acoustic comfort, the quantity of greening, annoyance, sky visibility, spatial scale, and building distance were examined as the determining factors affecting health evaluations, and 55.40% of the variance in health evaluations was explained by the soundscape and streetscape indicators. The findings provide references for better understanding the relationships between healthy experience and audio-visual perceptions. Moreover, they enable environmental health quality optimisation of pedestrian spaces considering audio-visual indicators and approaches in the post-epidemic era.

ABSTRACT

The article investigates the ways in which young musicians explored new (unfamiliar) social landscapes and emotions during Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns, through learning to listen to the "music within their steps” while walking on their own or with members of their own families for the inter-disciplinary project ‘The Musical Steps'. The project examines the self-recorded essays, visual materials and reflections by the young musicians and their parents, which reveal new cultural perspectives of sound, space and silence, along with the thoughts about musical repertoire which were inspired by the walks. Methodologically, we applied the walking biographical method that enabled us to explore young musicians' reflections on music and their lives during lockdowns from an inter-disciplinary perspective. The walking biographies approach to research on the move has been specially adapted for young musicians and their families by the authors. This article explores how walking changed young musicians' emotional perceptions of music and what they heard and felt during and after their walks. Questions were raised as to whether the walks affected their physical and mental well-being, both personally and musically, and whether the walks influenced their understanding of their cultural background/origin.
